Today only Rare Breed comes close to the real thing. Kentucky Spirit was very good, but has gone downhill. The original 101 proof 10 year old Russel's Reserve just might have been the very best Wild Turkey bourbon ever to be put into a bottle. Yes there have been some VERY expensive extra aged Turkeys that have been supurb, and well received.
Old No. 8 has always been a totally lack luster - run of the mill bourbon. There is nothing special about it at all. Todays vatting of variously aged Wild Turkey straight bourbons are far superior to anything that used to be called "Old No. 8". That's just one of the reasons they got rid of the "Old No. 8" label.
