Knew we should have bought another bottle before the sale ended! $31 for Knob Creek...that's coming close to keeping it out of regular rotation on our bar.

I've been enjoying the VA-exclusive single-barrel version of Knob Creek, but I can't see making it a regular staple, particularly at $30.90. That ~$7 price bump from its debut puts it into the price tier where I MUCH prefer Blanton's. ($28.99 if you catch a Maryland sale).

It's great to see a control state experimenting with stuff like this though! And just like Dave, I wish I had bought more last month.

Bunghole,

Was the proof of the VA Knob Creek Single barrel the same 100 proof or was it sometheing different? The Knob Creek Single barrel I heard tell of was going to be offered at 120 proof. Of course my source may be pulling a fast one on me. I'm getting to the age where I can't even trust what I tell myself. :geek: The stuff you had in VA sounded like some excellent bourbon.

Yes, it wore the identical label. 100 proof, and 9 years old. Only the little copper oval hangtag with the barrel number set it apart. It just showed up on the shelves with no advance notice, or hoopla.

I don't beleive this is a brand new program from KC.

A local retailer told me some time ago he was offered this by the local Beam rep. However, unlike SB offerings from HH & BT, Beam does the barrel selection. All the retailer gets is a bunch of bottles of KC with the extra label his their name on it. My guy (who is very good at barrel selections) turned it down since it just seemed like a way to get him to take more inventory that he felt might be just like the regular KC.

Beam won't confirm but rumors persist that a national release of a Knob Creek Single Barrel is coming soon. I spoke to someone (not a Beam employee) who was shown where they have built the single barrel bottling line at Clermont.

I think this augurs well for the brand. Even some current bottlings of KC are superbly good, a recent purchase in Ontario had a rich rounded peanut brittle-like taste, with cured flavours and something extra going on. The next bottle was more in line with how I`ve found KC in recent years, good but with the yeasty-grassy notes more prominent. I think honey barrels of KC should be outstanding and the older, the better.

Doesn't it have to be more than just a KC single barrel, like older?

I would think so. Age really would add a lot to the profile IMO.
