Hometown's First Brewery Since '67

Unread postby RandyG » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:49 pm

This Spring saw the first brewery here in Mankato, MN since 1967. The Mankato Brewery started selling beer this Spring and I'll have to say I am impressed. I was not expecting much but this stuff is not bad (a little pricey at $9 a six). They currently have two brews, their "Mankato Original" is a homage to the traditional top-fermented beers of Cologne, Germany. Not a bad beer but I prefer the second beer in their lineup call "Stickum" (pronounced schtyk-oom), a Sticke-Altbier style beer that tastes somewhat like a hoppier/more bitter Sam Adams. They are not quite in the same league as Sam's but I AM impressed, especially since this is their first effort.

Cheers,
Mr. G
