Bombergers/Michters Distillery

Has anyone on here made the trek to this place for a non-sanctioned tour? It's in central Pennsylvania and on the list of National Register of Historic Places as the oldest distillery in the US.

I'd also like to know if there is anything else bourbon/whiskey related to do around the Philadelphia area. The only small distilleries I have been able to find around here do not have tours available right now.

I'm staying with in-laws this week and need to get out of the house, if you know what I mean!

Thanks!

How about you do a drive by and tell us what's there. I would be interested in hearing about what you find.

Haha, based on what I've been able to find online, I'm hoping there are still some structures standing.

What about my other queries?
Anyone, Bueller?

Bourbon Joe and I visited a few years ago. There are many dilapidated buildings. I took a few pictures. At that time we were able to walk around; however, recently the owner does not allow people to park there or walk around.

I didn't know the warehouses were single level.

So is it worth the trip? Anything of interest? As best as I can tell from online research, the property is owned by someone(s) in Philly?

The property is still in tact but mostly in ruin. There are no more warehouses and you are not allowed to step one foot on their property. It's a neat fly by but I would not make a concerted effort to get there.
Joe

Should have checked for any further replies prior to hitting the road this morning. The new owner is the farm directly behind it. The owner just about had a coronary when he saw me. Jumped off his tractor screaming and made me delete all pictures.

Agreed, not much to really see. I'm guessing it won't be long before it's leveled, especially if that guy gets that worked up about anyone coming to see it!

That's a shame.

BTW, as long as you were standing on the road, and had no interest in getting on the owners good side, you can take all the pictures of the buildings you like. Tell him to bugger off.

Cheers!

I wish I had seen this thread sooner. I could've warned you about the new owners. They will chase down anyone that sets foot on the property now. There isn't much left anyway. Most of it has been torn down or is in the process of coming down.

Ethan how does this tie into the proposed visit on June 6 as part of the gathering at Joe's? Is it better to stay away?

I look forward to meeting you, as you may know, I have a longstanding interest in Michetr's.

Gary Gillman.

YES. Stay away. We will all end up in state police handcuffs if we go over. I don't like discussing the current situation there on public forums. Email me for more details.

Oh no problem, we will meet at Joe's and can just discuss the history at a safe distance, I'm good with that. See you then.

Gary

The right of way extending from the edge of the paved road for a specified number of feet is owned by the State and any member of the public may stop there without trespassing.

Buildings that are plainly in public view may be photographed by the public unless prohibited by the State in writing clearly posted on State property.
