Forgot that one Chuck as usual. It is never ever seen around here or most places I frequent besides KY so it never comes to mind... But yes, it is a very good bourbon for the money. Me and Chris finished a bottle in 2 days during the 02' festival it was so good.

I really like the EW 1783, but I felt compelled to speak up largely on Tina's behalf. She has been our household advocate for the 1783 for years. Tina loves bourbon, but is also very frugal. It's the perfect bourbon for her!

I can't either. But, I also can't say anything good about it.

In fact, I've never even seen a bottle and it doesn't appear to be something stocked by online retailers.

A sad, sad day for me. :sad3:

Thanks to Binnys, though, I've been enjoying some AAA 10 y.o., which is another astonishing bargain. :D

It's been a long time since a bottle of Evan Williams 1783 has graced the bunghole household, but 10 year old Ancient Ancient Age is a staple bourbon. As I recall the EW 1783 is also a 86 proof ten year old. Here in Virginia it's $11.95 per 750ml bottle while 10y.o. AAA is $9.90 for the same volume. I always buy the liter bottle at $12.90.

1783 is under $10 in Maryland. It is my low price favorite.

I picked up a bottle of EW 1783 a few weeks back. This is very tasty and at only $9.99 a bottle a steal. Today I got a bottle of Jim Beam Black. This is also a nice bourbon and similar to Knob creek IMO. I started my bourbon quest at the mid and upper price range and now want to investigate some of the more price friendly bourbons.

best "cheap" bourbon

As of this month, RR doesn't make the cut here - $29 in VA ABC.

Wow, that is quite a bit. Even here it is still a bit less than $24... I have to agree with ya Dave. It's a very respectable pour for under $25 but $29 is a bit much IMO.

Turkey VA price hike

I'm digressing from the topic, but Rare Breed just went over $36 here. The whole Turkey line got a big price boost recently. Not sure what the deal is. RB used to be a bargain at around $28; RR about $24; but given that Stagg 2004 was $38 when we bought it two months ago, the Turkey line isn't as appealing cost-wise. It's almost like it's a scheme to make Tribute look more reasonably priced!

To try to remain germane...Benchmark is not GREAT, but considering it's only about $8-9 here, I think it's a bargain. For the guy who's down and out, emptying his pockets and can't quite come up with the $10 to get AAA...Benchmark is a good backup.

If the Virginia Gentleman comes in at 25 or under it gets another vote from me. As well as Maker's and Weller 12.
