I.W.Harper 15 anyone?

Unread postby Vital » Wed Sep 16, 2015 1:10 am

Anyone tried IW Harper 15 yet?
Beautiful looking bottle, 15yo, Diageo...but there's not much more info on it. For around $100 I'd like to get some feedback before (possibly) getting it.

I think it is a pretty nice bourbon but I would not buy another bottle. Try to get a dram in a bourbon bar and then decide.

I like it a lot. It kinda reminds me of the old harper of yesteryear. I'll buy it under 60 bucks.

I believe it is very good and worth the $58 I paid for it.

Would you guys have any "review" type comments on it? Woody, spicy, mellow, vanilla.....Or tell me what it's similar to? Seen this bottle at my store today ($79.99+tax) and my "WAAAAANT it" feeling kicked right up :D

Bottle is super cool looking and also matches my cups I got from my grandfather who had them since 1960's back in soviet union so bottle alone now that i've seen it myself is pushing me towards getting it just to have it matched with those glasses but there's still no clear indication of what it tastes like.

That's a unique purchase decision my friend. I've had the 15 year 80 proof offered some years back and other Old Harpers from the 1970-80s so I have some perspective on the whisky and based on that am not willing to pay $80 for this current 15 year old.

That being said you are buying for reasons other than just drinking the bottle contents so it's worth what it's worth to you.

Sorry, didn't really answer the question. Old Harper is a low rye Bourbon with a lighter body and less spicy flavor than most standard Bourbons. The brand has been highly regarded for those qualities, easy drinking, mildly mixing, you know it's Bourbon and a cut above average, just not palate challenging. I've known men who required more robust flavor and I've known men for whom the Harper profile was perfectly suitable.
