Russell's Reserve 10yr..

Unread postby RedHaze » Tue Sep 01, 2015 7:47 pm

I've never had this bourbon, but the class six on the base where I work has it for $22.90. Was looking for opinions on whether this is a good buy, and worth grabbing a couple bottles.

Welcome aboard RedHaze, don't know where you're stationed but yes, damn good price in fact, seems as if it's priced without tax or retailer markup. Get several.

The price on base is great; however, I would only buy one. Taste it and if you like it, you can but more. Not everyone likes Wild Turkey.

Thanks for the welcome. Stationed in Nebraska. Sometimes our class six has some really good deals (the last time they got in Booker's it was $44), and actually carry some higher dollar bourbons at times (Jim Beam Masterpiece right now).

I've had Rare Breed and wasn't a fan, but I've also had WT101 and thought it was pretty damn good. Wasn't sure if the Russell's 10yr leaned one way or the other, or was a completely different flavor profile than those two.

In my opinion, the Russell's Reserve leans more toward the regular 101 than Rare Breed. YMMV.

At the price I would buy several if only for friends who do like that expression.

We had a bottle of that in our last formal tasting. All 7 contestants rated it last. Not very good IMO. It should be mentioned that it was not the old 101 which was great.
