No 1 Bourbon Street Blended Bourbon

Unread postby jflsufan » Fri May 15, 2015 11:29 am

I found this bottle the other day. Since I grew up in New Orleans I had to buy it. But I am curious as to the story behind this bottle. I have found very limited information. Can anyone give me the scoop on this bottle?

Good luck with that J. With all the NDP's (Non-Distiller-Producers), and craft distilleries out there now, you never can be quite sure what's what any more. Any info at all on the bottle that might be of some help?

The first group of numbers on the UPC code on the back of the label will tell you who made it, if you have a code chart. Hope this helps.

This is all of the information that I could find. See below:

BOURBON STREET WAS INTRODUCED BY SEAGRAM AROUND 1990-PLUS OR MINUS A YEAR. IT WAS A BLEND OF 51% INDIANA BOURBON AND 49% STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY, BOTH MADE AT SEAGRAM'S LAWRENCEBURG INDIANA DISTILLERY. IT WAS INTRODUCED TO SEVERAL STATES FOR TEST MARKETING,"THEY WERE PRIMARILY SOUTHERN STATES. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER INTRODUCTION T WAS CONTROVERSY AND LEGAL ISSUES RELATIVE TO THE NAME,"No 1 BOURBON STREET,"- AND THE FAMOUS NEW ORLEANS STREET OF THE SAME NAME. IT DIDN'T LAST LONG ON THE MARKET, PROBABLY LESS THAN SIX MONTHS. THERE WAS ONLY ONE BOTTLING OF THE BRAND AND SEAGRAM RECALLED ALL THE BOTTLES IT COULD LOCATE FROM THE RETAIL STORES AND DESTROYED THEM. THIS IS ONE OF THE RARE BOTTLES THAT SURVIVED.

Seagram's made a lot of swill back in those days. Remember the old four roses blended? Terrible stuff. I don't know about your bottle though.
