Another brand drops age statement. Fighting Cock

Unread postby Birdo » Fri Feb 20, 2015 9:04 am

My newest bottle of Fighting Cock no longer contains the "6 year old statement". I'll see how it tastes, hopefully the flavor is the same. It would be my preference they raise the price a dollar or two instead of cutting corners.

I saw Weller SR dropped the 7 years, and VOB BIB dropped their 6 year claim, so I guess this is becoming common place. I don't buy these two often so I can't really opine on the quality.

That's the trend these days even with scotch, as demand goes up whiskeys get younger.
Why wait 6 or more years when you can wait 4.
If consumers don't care neither will the producers.

Tried them side by side. I can't tell much difference. The younger one might be spicier, and the 6y/o might be smoother, but it could be my imagination. It's good everyday bourbon, nothing more nothing less. It's right in there with Wild Turkey 101 or Old Forester 100 Proof. You know I like a 100 proof rye based bourbon and am not real picky.

FC is still a good Heaven Hill mid grade bourbon. There's a good many mid-grade bourbons that lack age statements including: Makers WT101, Buffalo Trace, OF Sig.

It is slightly better than Old Heaven Hill gold label, but it all drinks.

Regrettable but not unexpected.

i was hoping this was just a myth.

Im more bothered by the dropping of the whole gold BIB line, as I thought it was better than FC and half the cost. Im just glad theyre keeping the 6 year BIB and 6 year 90 proof........for now. I keep two cases of the 6 year BIB and one case of the 90 proof, just in case though

What? No more gold label BIB? That was a favorite. I swear its the same as FC for cheap.
