Having a hard time deciding

Unread postby R-Savage » Fri May 16, 2014 8:19 am

I don't know which one I want to try as a first bottle. Do I want a Knob Creek? a Four Roses, A Bakers, a Jim Black? Explore the Red Stag again? Perhaps a Evan Willams? or perhaps a ......? So Many choices. you get the idea.

Or explore a 1792 Reserve? or A Booker?

hmmmmm
any suggestions?

For Sipping whisky I did enjoy the Jack Daniels Single Barrel. if this helps.

My suggestions are try the 1792 and the Four Roses first, then try the rest of your list. At least you drank the best first imo.

based on your impressions, might I suggest.......Image

seriously though, just try something new every time you go out to dinner or a bar, and get a feel of what you like. Im not really a fan of BF products, but that's just my tastes; apparantly you do like their stuff. So, try Old Forester, Woodford, Jack variants, etc.

I don't want to start any shit, but your post is way out of line. This is MY FIRST bourbon, if you read any of my posts I'm a beer advocate. Please do not criticize what I find tasty it may be shit to you, but a new experience to me. I like my bow more 21 year, my isle of Jura. I can't wait to see what you post for a beer. A pabst blue ribbon ? Piss water drink . Not a real beer.

I came here to learn.

I have no issues spending 300.00 on a bottle of cognac how about you?
I want to make sure I like what I'm buying.

I don't want to start anything. But I'm a beginner in the bourbon area. As what the site suggested. Start with the main streams, and by the reviews I have read seem to be a wise choice, FOR A BEGINNER.

Get the point?

maybe you couldn't tell that I was joking......

if we all had the same tastes, these bourbon forums would be quiet places.

You did ask for opinions.

Just like in the world of beer, there are bourbons for the masses and there are bourbons for the true believer. The beauty of bourbon is that there are some great bourbons that cost very little (EWB). I don't mean to be insensative but most (not all) serious bourbon drinkers tend to stay away from the trendy flavored bourbons, much the same way scotch and beer enthusiasts tend to be purests.
Whiskey for Breakfast (in the key of Glock).

Doug, if you're wondering why so many people give you a hard time on the bourbon web sites, it's because of posts like this.

Humor comes across poorly on a text-only format such as online forums......

One of the whiskies he mentioned in his original post makes me think of turpentine every time I smell or taste it. Which one, I will leave up to you to decide. My attempt at humor was aimed at that one whiskey, not at the poster himself. Of course, if you're gonna play on an online forum and ask for opinions, you need to have a thick skin.

Well, I'm a huge advocate of Wild Turkey products, especially the 101. I live in the dessert with 0 degree winters and 110+ summers and wheaters don't appeal to me in that hot of weather. I enjoy WT in any weather, neat or on ice, in coke or ginger ale, etc. and it is affordable and damn good tasting. It isn't too complex but there are still a few layers. Really a very well balanced bourbon and that's why it's my go-to
