"Warehouse C was built in 1881 and contains 20,000 barrels of whiskey, none of which were damaged in the storm."

From the link provided above, I thought I'd add the important point that none of the liquid goodies were damaged. Thank God! They can always fix the damn roof!

I just realized that my wife & I were in that warehouse less than a month ago, good to know that the bourbon wasn't damaged. Damn sad to think the building was damaged though. What a cool old building! That place was easily the highlight of the tour! Hopefully they can get it back open to the public ASAP!

Mark Brown sent me some photos of the damage and I just wanted to share them with everyone. Amazing to see the damage but the barrels still just sitting there up on their racks...

Perspective

Unread postby EllenJ » Sat Apr 15, 2006 1:54 am

In September, when you're watching the Kentucky Bourbon Festival barrel-races, or any time you think about the warehouse crew moving these 55-gallon barrels around, just consider this...
The parts of that warehouse that aren't there anymore were made of bricks, and mortar, and heavy wood beams.
The parts that were whiskey barrels still are; unaffected by such an insignificant thing as a major thunderstorm.
Moral: Mother Nature is no fool, and she knows her whiskey. Don't mess with Buffalo Trace!

John,
In 1897 a tornado came down Main Street in Louisville. The city was devestated with many people killed and businesses destroyed and yet the most famous photograph is of the bourbon warehouse with the side gone and the barrels sitting on the racks.
