Bottegade Del Vino Whiskey Crystal Glasses

Unread postby daisy3d » Sat Mar 18, 2006 12:11 pm

Forgive me if this isn't the place to post this, but I have two of the subject glasses, pretty much brand new, see link:

I don't really care for them though, if anyone is interested in these glasses you can have mine at $40/delivered for two. I prefer the Glencarin glasses much better now.

PM me if interested.

The Glencairn glasses do grow on you! They are the best that I fave found.

Phil I can see why you don't like them - they flair out at the lip. This is just poor design. I realise the flaired lip is supposed to more evenly coat the palate, but my experiance has shown me that this is pure poppycock. I've also found flaired lip glasses to be downright annoying as they defuse rather than focus the nose. This works against the subtile nuances you may be trying to descern during any serious tasting endevour. Any straight sided glass is better than a flaired lip.

To me, the much coveted Pure Glass is the very best whisky glass hands down. However they are very expensive and hard to get. The Glencarin is the next best thing, and they are only $7-$8 at the Bourbon Heritage Center in Bardstown.

Of those pictured, I would only use the glass on the far right. I find it simple, utilitarian, yet with a plain elegance. The whiskey is not too low in the glass (I dislike when it has to "travel" and "spread" along a broad area) and it does not permit fumes to concentrate. I don't think concentrated fumes suit bourbon. Cognac and some malt whiskey are different. The glass on the far right is closest to the pre-Prohibition shot glasses and suits whisky best, in my view.

If all those glasses were filled from the same bottle, that's a magic bottle. :)
