Would there be a glass bottle inside the can, or the horror that I'm thinking?

The metal containers for bourbon were developed in Canada during prohibition to cut down on breakage during smuggling across the border to the United States. The United States government actually liked the idea for use in medicinal whiskey because it added another level of security to prevent tampering with the bottle (i.e. open the bottle and cut with neutral spirits and sell as pure whiskey). American Medicinal Spirits and Frankfort Distilleries produced some of their brands in the same type of package. The Oscar Getz Museum has several examples on display.
