Wow, that result totally blows me away. I truly adore VWSLB and can't believe it didn't trounce the other two.

I love Van Winkle Lot B as well.......BUT, I've been taking the Weller 107 as my daily pour...I always felt it was very Van Winke-like.

This bolsters my feelings about this nice bourbon. And about half the price.

But I'll always feel Im drinking something special when I drink that Van Winkle!

The concensus was really that the Weller blew the doors off the VWSR. I was kind of surprised too.

I had a Weller 107 side-by-side with a William Larue Weller last nite.

I diluted both so they were similar proof . . . to about 95 or so.

WELL....instantly the 107 had the better nose! Of course after the 18 year old Weller sat in the glass for a while the better nose started to emerge. As well as the taste.

My point to this was, how MUCH better is a bourbon that costs twice as much....is it twice as good? Not really. Not putting down the WLW....but just surprised to see how good 107 really is. If it were a blind test, I do think I would have given it higher marks than the WLW!

Obviously the WLW has a more complex taste and the flavors or deeper. But the 107 wheater gets high marks from me too!

The WLW is 12 years old.
Has anybody tried the gold veined SW Weller Antique 107. This is even better than the current Antique 107. So both are always a great pour and while we are on the weller subject, I LOVE WELLER 12!!!!! The best pour in the world IMAO. ( of course I'm talking bang for the buck)

Thanks for the updates on your tastings Joe. I gotta come by for one of these one night.

Just goes to show, that there's a lot of damn good bourbons out there that won't break the bank. I enjoy a number of the pricier items such as VW 20, WT Tribute, Blanton's; but the Weller Antique, AAA, Buffalo Trace, Very Old Bartons to name a few are sooooo good for the money.

I had it back to back with the Frankfort the other night. The SW, IMO was not better than the Frankfort. I liked the Frankfort slightly better.

Joe,

I enjoy your group tasting reviews and I can say also that I am a little puzzled by the results. Not that I think Weller Antique is bad, it is one of my favorites, but I assumed that the Winkle stuff is so much better. I do like the Van Winkle line.

Have you thought of doing a tasting of Old Rip 107, Weller 7-107 and say Pure Kentucky XO 107?

Have a 107 shoot out.

Thanks for the blind tasting results

Chuck,
I have everything except the XO. They don't sell that in PA. Guess I'll get a bottle in Kentucky and have that shoot out down the road.

You might as well make it a four way shoot out and add Baker's 107.
