What is the Difference between WTRR 101 and WT101

What is the difference between wt101 and the now gone wtrr101, was it the same or different?

Also I have seen a bunch of wtrr101 in a local store recently is it worth scooping them up? I want to have bourbons to drink but also bourbons that are or will be unavailable or rare in the future. What are your thoughts.

Thanks,

George

If I'm not mistaking Russell's Reserve is 10 years old. The regular 101 isn't.

WT RR 101 is a great bourbon and discontinued a while back. I strongly suggest picking one up, and if you like it, pick up another one or two to drink in the future.

I've only tried regular WT 101 from a miniature, and it was not even close. I was not amused. (But I would still prefer it to Beam) :)

Exactly correct. Years ago, WT101 was an 8yo Bourbon. They've since removed the age statement all together. Read into that what you want but I'd say <8 is easily assumed.

Regardless, I find it beats it's direct competition.

As an aside several folks are trying to "age" Bourbons beyond what the distiller thought was necessary. My first attempt, just begun, is WT101. I'm expecting to leave it in a 5 gal barrel <12 months. Wish me luck!

GOOD LUCK! How much is in the barrel? A whole five gallons? Or less?

As for the age statement...I assumed the same thing, but wasn't there some discussion that disputed that? Or am I remembering incorrectly?

We have some 8 yo WT in a ceramic turkey decanter. We plan on doing a head to head with the current version soon.

Yes, Dave. It is full. Can't wait to sample this. I plan to try it at two month intervals. I also started a 10 litre full of Maker's. Nice for a change of pace from the WT. (and I thought Maker's would really benefit from the added age)

No, you are remembering correctly regarding the age statement. It came down to something out of marketing IIRC. They said something to the effect that the age was unchanged. Oaky, so why relabel it??? Hmmm??? We've done a couple side by sides. The regular 101 is still very good but doesn't seem to have the same viscosity (to me). I've heard similar from a few others. I attribute that to age.... Maybe I'm wrong.

I can't wait to hear what you guys taste.
