Seeing Mike's review of this brand simply reminds me How much I really like this bourbon. I wish it still had the age statemnet on the label because without it, the brand my slide downhill in the future, but it is still one of my favorites.

Mike, I had this recently and it was good but quite a bit removed from what I recall the S-W version was. Do you feel they vary considerably? I note in the review section on this whiskey you reviewed what appears to be a late-issue S-W version. Have you any that are earlier in your archive, say from the 1970's?

Mike, the bottle I reviewed does have the age statement, it says 8 years old. If you mean specific dates, no, it doesn't have that on the bottle.

Gary,
I had a few bottles from when I left U D in 1996, but I am down to a partial bottle. I agree it has slipped some since they sold the brand, but I think that has to do with the dissappearing age statement and Heaven Hill using some younger whiskey.

Mike,
The 8yo statement is what I am refering to in this case. The new bottles do not have that statement.

Mike...when I was in Louisville in September 2005, I picked up a bottle of 1849 right off the shelf at, I believe, the Liquor Barn.

It had the 8 year age statement on the front label and and "8" on the neck. I guess it was just luck that I was able to get this.

So, this is Stitzel-Weller bourbon? What year do you think it might be?

I am not sure when Heaven Hill started to change the label. I would say that it is probably no newer than 2003 and could be as old as early 1990's. If it is after 2000, thenit is probably Bernheim distillate or some real old Stitzel-Weller. Is there any numbers on the bottom of the bottle, molded into the glass? That would tell you the age of the glass.
