Christmas gifts

Unread postby dale3mike » Mon Dec 26, 2005 9:31 am

It's the day after Christmas. Did anyone, besides me, get a gift of a bottle?

Mine was a Henry McKenna 10 yo SB bottled in bond. Barrrel number 295, bottled on July 27, 1994.

I didn't get a gift of a bottle but I did give one... To my father in law. He doesn't have refined tastes by any means and he likes rye. I let him try various ryes like Sazerac 18yo and even VWFRR and in the ene dhe appreciates the cheaper ones beleive it or not, hey my luck! So I gave him a Jim Beam Rye this Christmas since last Christmas he got a Wild Turkey Rye.

ima recieved a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed for Christmas. A very pleasent gift as I never buy this for myself, as I always opt to buy Kentucky Spirit. The Rare Breed was a very tastey change of pace for me and I enjoyed half of it Christmas Eve, and the rest on Christmas Day.

My Very Merry Christmas

Unread postby scratchline » Mon Dec 26, 2005 3:21 pm

It was a major Christmas haul for me this year as I received not one, not two, but three bottles of hard to find bourbon. In addition to a bottle of Wild Turkey Tribute, I got two bottles of the ORVW 15 yr. I stored these for a very special occasion and broke open a bottle of Russell's Reserve 101 on Christmas Eve. This was the first time I ever had this bourbon, and I found it delicious.

Merry Christmas to all.

Mike your post of a bottle of Wild Turkey Russell's Reserve 101 jogged my memory. Dave & Tina Angelshare gave me a bottle of R's R 101 for Christmas. Since the 101 proof is no longer available I'll be leaving this sealed for a special day.

I didn't get bourbon, but the wife got me a bottle of The Glenrothes 1992, not too shabby. I picked up a bottle of Bulleit the other day because Safeway had it for 21 bucks, and I liked the reviews I read about it here. Not too bad a pour, especially for $21!

I had a great Christmas. I got a bottle of Sazerac Rye, a bottle of my favorite bourbon - 23 yr old Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve and a nice selection of cigars. To celebrate the holiday, I opened a bottle of Dow 1970 Vintage Port.

Our non-bourbon drinking friends did pretty well for us this year. We got Jim Beam Black & EWSB 1996 from a friend at work and Basil Hayden from Tina's brother.

My dad scored a ER 17 yo for us - definitely the prize bourbon present!

HAPPY NEW YEAR INDEED!

I gave myself a bottle of Van Winkle Reserve 12 YO. Mike Veach's review reminded me that I haven't had that bourbon in a long time and I liked it very much the last time I had it.

Getting the Pappy 23 YO when it comes in to my liquor store will be my other self-given present.

Didn't receive any but gave a Kentucky Spirit to my son in law. It was much appreciated. Then we cracked open a bottle of Wild Turkey 101 Rye. Delicious! As good as any rye I've had.

Hey Ken,
I like that Wild Turkey Rye too. Rye doesn't get much better than that.

I treated myself to the greatest christmas presents and birthday ever. My birthday is dec 30 so I figured I should treat myself. My theme this year was "Moby Dick", why? Because I scored more white whales for my stash then most of you will believe.

This is the list:
Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 1989-2002 The original bottling
Old Forester Birthday Bourbon Spring 1990

Four Roses Super Premium Export only
Four Roses Single Barrel new U.S. Version

Pappy Van Winkle 20 yo Lawrenceburg bottle
Pappy 23 yo first bottling from lawerenceburg signed by J.V.W. III
Van Winkle 12 yo Lot B from Lawrenceburg
Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 1985 Export only Non Chilled-Filtered 100 proof
Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 yo - old bottle from Lawrenceburg
Van Winkel Old Time Rye 12 year old

Wild Turkey 12 yo, early 90's gold label
Wild Turkey 12 yo mid to late 90's bottle with 2 labels on front

Blanton's Barrel Proof

A H Hirsch 20 yo

Weller 19 yo Fall 02'

Jacobs Well

Henry Clay

Joseph Finch

I wont say how much I spent (unless you PM me and ask) but I will say that I feel like a great weight has been lifted off my bourbon obessesion. I will be opening all of them and trying them all, but in due time. I have gone in the realm of more than I can review because I just keep adding to my stash. I WOULD LOVE POUR A BIT OF THESE FOR WHOEVER CAN MAKE IT MY HOUSE on Long Island. I am teaching my two little girls to share so I should do the same.

Happy New year everybody

Joe

PS if anybody has any remarks about any of these bottles I should know, feel free to let me hear it.

Hey Joe,
Man what a list. Some of the stuff on that list makes me gasp. My birthday just passed (the 24th) and I got myself a bottle of Pappy 23. Good work bunkering these bourbons and Happy Birthday!
