Choice for Thanksgiving bourbon

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

As I have mentioned in the past, not that i think anyone is keeping track, I decided to start taking bourbon seriously this year. It's been now about 6 months. Over this time period I have placed on my shelf numerous offerings and I have at any time 3 or 4 opened for tasting. At this time there are 3 opens, Knob Creek small batch, Bernheims Wheat and Evan Williams Black label. All are about half full and at most I remove 1.5 ounces per day from just one. All that to say at current consumption rates I have 30 to 35 days worth opened.

But I would like to open a new bottle for Thanksgiving and having a tough time making up my mind. Looking for some imput, narrowed it to two, Wild Turkey 101 and Four Roses Single Barrel. I haven't tried either although I might have had WT but forgotten about it. WT is taking the lead in my decision due to it's obvious name connotation to the holiday.

Anyway, looking for help deciding, what should Thomas do?

I'd go with the Four Roses SB. I've never had a bad experience with FR or WT but I can also say I never had a great experience with WT.

Out of those 2 go with Four Roses. On the other have Wild Turkey is more festive.

Why the concern over how many you have opened? Not trying to be smart just learning, would they go bad that quickly?

No, I don't think it will go bad, I just have this thing about having too many open at one time. Just a personal thing.
Welcome to the forum Thig.

Go with Wild Turkey. It's one of my favorite all-around bourbons and it has a versatility to fit almost any situation that I feel Single Barrels lack. IE, thanksgiving can be a hectic place with family and possibly kids amuck. In my opinion, SBs fit better in quiet situations, perhaps by a fire and enjoyed alone or with a close friend. Either way, enjoy

Never had that Four Roses, but have had the WT 101. I like both brands, I would try the Four Roses. What you should get is some WT Rare Breed or Old Forester Signature.

OK
Heading into the day I was still undecided. With my brother here, we delved into some Brandy and a little Glenvilit Scotch. Then under pressure I decided to uncork the Four Roses SB. In a word, WOW! Great Bourbon. Got another bottle hidden in the bowels of the bunker but I don't think that is going to be enough.

Happy Thanksgiving my friends!
Tom

Having some High West Whiskey - Rocky Mountain Rye - 21 Year Old - 53% Rye - Batch 5 - Bottle No. 167 - 92 Proof This is very nice stuff, highly recommended.

Move up from the 101 and get some Rare Breed.

Thanksgiving is a special time so I would go with the Four Roses Single Barrel. Just because the other one has turkey on the label means nothing more to me than it has turkey on the label.

As an out of town guest, you drink what you are served. I had some Maker's at the Folks house, and the Wild Turkey 101, and Bulleit bourbon at my cousins. It's all good, I did like the Bulleit the best, I have heard that its from Four Roses, and the lineage is obvious.

As a side note it sucks that bulleit should be having to change threre source as the supply will not be renewed by the sources new owner.

I don't think we'll see a dramatic difference in Bulleit as production shifts elsewhere, could even be better.
