Wild Turkey "Forgiven" Ltd. Ed.

Unread postby RandyG » Fri Oct 11, 2013 11:28 am

Has anybody had a chance to try the new Wild Turkey "Forgiven" Limited Edition (or even seen it)? It's a 90 proof high rye whiskey. The bottle is the same used for Rare Breed, just a different label.

Just Curious,

I'm very curious about this, but I find the thought of it troubling.

Apparently, it's 78% 6 YO bourbon and 22% 4 YO rye. It's 91 proof and they are selling it for $50.

Does this mean they are taking my beloved WT101 and and my former beloved WT101 Rye, mixing them, watering them down, and selling them for $50?

If so, it's a pretty genius plan on their part, but I doubt I'll be partaking.
If I want to try it, it would give me an excuse to actually buy the 81 Rye and just mix it with WT101.

Just what I've read. Maybe I'm wrong on all counts here. Haven't seen it on the shelf yet.

I'm reluctant as well. That's why I asked. I love their Rare Breed (6-12YO @ 108 proof) and Kentucky Spirit (9YO @ 101 proof) but this one seems over priced for a 6YO bourbon with 4YO rye, especially at 90 proof. Unless I'm missing something here, I'll likely pass on this one. I do have their Russel's Reserve Single Barrel on my radar though.

Cheers,
RG

My understanding is that Forgiven was a mixture of Bourbon and Wild Turkey Rye that "accidentally" got mixed together. It was a fairly tasty product from what I remember.

I have had it. It's a very nice whiskey but I think a little overpriced. For my palate its on the level of russell reserve but it does not measure up to rare breed. It has a nice balanced spice component with the rye (and its very nice with a medium to full cigar). If it were priced at $30 I would buy it again but at $50 I will stay with rare breed
