If I *like* Old GrandDad?.....

Unread postby RaksAbijah » Mon Sep 30, 2013 5:41 pm

I'm quite fond of my Old GranDad 86 (yes, I know about others - yada, yada, I will get to them). I enjoy the nose and that cherry Sucrets thing it has going on - fruity?

Anywhoo......I'm wondering what other bourbons have a similar taste profile. I'm into a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed and I'm not on board yet. Finished a bottle of George Dickel #12 and while it wasn't bad and it kinda' grew on me - It never made me feel.....well......*happy*, eh? I think you know what I mean.

Thoughts?

I like Old Grand Dad too. If you like the fruity hints you might want to try the 80 proof Four Roses. By my accounting of it, it is the best 80 proof bourbon out there. If you like that then you might step up to the OGD bottled in bond, or better yet, the Four Roses Single Barrel. Again, in my accounting, there is no better value in bourbon than FRSB.

you could be the next 'squire'

just keep a bottle of OGD and a bottle of VOB BIB on hand.

if you like the OGD 86, you better stock up, its been d/c'ed -- reduced to 80 proof, the 86 is going away.

Squire is one of the crew here. He is very fond of Old Grand Dad (OGD) Bottled In Bond (BIB).

VOB BIB = Very Old Barton, Bottled In Bond

He can be found here and there, usually in the company of his Old Grand Dad.

My "around the house" drink is a vatting of the two. Two parts VOB BIB to one part OGD BIB. It's mighty tasty.

If you like the taste of cherries in your bourbon, try a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel. No, it's not a bourbon but it definitely (to me, anyway) has a distinct cherry flavor and more than a couple enthusiasts rate it highly.
