....If I *don't* like Jim Beam 8 yo.......

I picked up a bottle of Jim Beam 8 year and, to be honest, it's not ringing my bell...

What are some other whiskies that have a similar taste profile?....Maybe I can save myself the trouble down the road?

As a point of reference - I like scotch and Rebel Yell. That alone gets me kicked off of the forum, right? (that's a joke son. ya' missed it).

There is a Scotch Whisky sub-forum on this site.

All whiskeys are related historically so discussion of non-bourbon types is by no means disapproved.

Beam has a profile many find challenging. I am not a fan personally although some in the Beam line, e.g. Knob Creek, are quite acceptable.

I would look for Evan Williams Single Vintage, they are well-priced and excellent. Or Old Forester 100 proof. Or 1792 from Barton, or Blanton. Lots of options.

There is nothing Beam makes that I like. Basically, all the same recipe. For me, it's Four Roses Single Barrel and Buffalo Trace.

Thanks for the input.

I have an open bottle of Evan Williams Single Barrel 2002, Rebel Reserve, Eagle Rare 10 year, and the afore mentioned Jim Beam.......I like the wheated Rebel Reserve the best. I do have an unopened bottle of Ezra 101 and Buffalo Trace.....Gotta' clean up some of the open bottles before I proceed.

The whiskies that I like the least, I put into my mochas ( I live in Washington - what else do we drink up here).

Beam black is okay, but I think it can be overpriced and the proof is too low. Beam black is mainstream, easy to drink and not to complicated. You should try Wild Turkey 101, to me it is the big dog that doesn't get enough attention. Big flavor, priced right, and available everywhere.

Since you like Rebel Yell, the Weller wheaters might make sense, or the old fitz line.

Go with Old Weller Antique or the Weller 12 year old if you can find it. Wheated bourbons that may fit your palate

Not a big Beam fan here either. Like their KC 120, but that's about it.

Cheers,

The only Beam products I have found tasty are Knob Creek and Bookers. I just could never get into anything else.
