Gift Suggestion for Husband

Disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about.
I'm looking for whiskey suggestions as a present for my husband.
He has Makers Mark, Knob Creek and I think his favorite is Basil and Hayden.
He said Maker's 46 was too smooth and I don't think he's fond of Elijah Craig.

Any suggestions?

Based on what you said, I'd get him a bottle of Wild Turkey Unfiltered Barrel Proof. I think he might like that.

Not a bad suggestion, Joe.

I don't know how much you'd like to spend, but I think the following would be good choices, ranging from the $20s to $75+...the ones with the star are ones I prefer as a gift, but it's very subjective:

Old Grand Dad 114
Elmer T. Lee
*Old Weller Antique
Weller 12
Buffalo Trace
Four Roses Small Batch
*Four Roses Single Barrel
Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit
*Rock Hill Farms
*Parker Heritage Collection
*Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch 2012

If his favorite is Basil Hayden I would go with either Old Grandad 114 or Four Roses Single Barrel

I'd go with the Wild Turkey Rare Breed. This is a fairly common bourbon, but at about $35 a bottle, it's a great whiskey for the price. It's 108.2 proof, so it's got lots of power to it- which would allow him to add a few drops of water to bring it to whatever proof he likes. It's one of my favorites and it's a great, robust whiskey that would certainly stack up with Basil Hayden's.

I suggest that you give him a gift certificate ($100, if that is appropriate) at the best liquor store in your area and let him grapple with the decision. $100 will allow him to buy several excellent moderately priced bourbons (e.g. Evan Williams Single Barrel, Four Roses Single Barrel, and a Wild Turkey bourbon, plus something like Fighting Cock, inexpensive, but not to be dismissed).

Thank you for your help. Not sure if there's any chance of finding these at our ABC (North Carolina) stores but I'll look in ones close to the upper end neighborhoods (Cary). I'll let you know what I find and later what he thinks of my present. He's mentioned he wants to start a large collection and have a tasting for friends so I bet anything will be welcome.
Thanks.

Be on the look out for Elijah Craig 18. It has been discontinued by Heaven Hill, but there are still a few bottles floating around. North Carolina recently dropped the price from $50ish to a close out price of $25. An 18 year old bourbon for $25 is a steal, although some people aren't a fan of EC18.

Buffalo Trace Just released their Weller 12 year again. That is a good drink for a great price. Much better than Maker's IMHO...

Completely agree, Em. I had a couple of wheaters in my suggestion because it might be that he just doesn't like Maker's rather than not liking wheaters in general.

Old Grand Dad, either 86 or 100 proof.
