I am going through a ledger from the Taylor-Hay collections that is a Journal for James E Pepper. Taylor managed the distillery for Pepper in the late 1870's and eventually took control as Pepper's debts became more out of hand. In 1876 the person doing the distilling at Old Osacr Pepper was W F Mitchell and he earned a salary of $150.00 per month.

According to Van Johnson, Mitchell's successor, Mitchell was Crow's assistant at Old Oscar Pepper and continued as distiller at Crow under Taylor after James Pepper lost financial control of the Pepper distillery. Johnson's successor was his son, Leo.
