New York Bourbon

There's a lot of history and 'lore' behind bourbon so discuss both here.

New York Bourbon

Unread postby tlsmothers » Mon May 15, 2006 9:24 pm

I'm helping a new distillery in New York do a little research. We're about to launch what we think is New York's first bourbon since Prohibition. Does anyone have any knowledge of any bourbon produced in New York at all?

LeNell,
I have been looking this morning at the 1909 Mida's Financial Direstory for New York disitilleries. In this directory there are only 2 New York State registered disitlleries. There is the Columbia Distillery in Albaby and the Buffalo Distiling Company in, you guessed it, Buffalo. I will copy the New York section for you. I also went back and looked to see if there were any trademarks involving these names from these cities. There is a Buffalo Club Rye from Buffalo, New York, but that is all I have found so far. I will also send you a copy of that trademark. You also may want to go to the New York Public Library and look in the Bonefort's Wine and Spirits Journals on microfilm there. Mida's was based in Chicago and dealt with whiskies sold in the midwest and national brands. Bonefort's would have the brands that were registered nation wide and the brands on the eastern seaboard.

I will get these copies into the mail to you soon.
