A brief history of a Missouri distilling company.


McCormick Distilling Company History

1856 - David Holladay establishes a distillery in Westron
Missouri with financial backing from his brother Ben
(Downard, Dictionary of the History of the American
Brewing and Distilling Industries, p.112)

1873 - Panic of 1873 cause Holladay financial ruin (Downard,
Dictionary of ..., p. 112).

1890 - George Shawhan buys the Barton and Holladay distillery
(Downard, Dictionary of..., p.112).

1920 - Prohibition closes distilleries.

1933 - Isadore Singer purchases the Shawhan Distillery and the
McCormick brand name, changes the name of the
distillery to McCormick (Downard, Dictionary of...,
p.112).

1947 - United Distilleries of America aquires the McCormick
Distillery for its stocks of old whiskey (Downard,
Dictionary of..., p.112).

1950 - Cloud L, Cray Sr., president of Midwest Solvents,
acquires the McCormick Distillery (Downard, Dictionary
of..., pp.112-113).

1966 - McCormick Distilling Company is listed as being in
Weston, Missouri with McCormick Gold and Green label
bourbons, Platte Valley corn whiskey and McCormick Gin
and Vodka (1966 Red Book, p.37).

1980 - Marty Adams becomes president of McCormick and starts
to market their whiskey, Vodka, Gin, and other
products, nationwide (Kovels' Bottles Price List,
p.130).
