A little something with a Pennsylvania connection.


Golden Wedding Heritage

1856 - Joseph S Finch builds a distillery near Pittsburgh,
Pa.. He sells Golden Wedding Whiskey. (U D Archive,
Uncataloged Manuscript).

1884 - James D Pontefract Registers the trademarks "Finch's
Golden Wedding Whiskey", "Finch's Golden Wedding
Rye", "Finch's Golden Wedding", and "Golden Wedding" (U
D Archive, Trademark File - Golden Wedding).

1911 - Mida's Criteria Financial Index list Jos. S Finch & Co.
at 129-31 McKean St. DSP 4, 23rd District Pa. with a
capital value rating of B ($200,000.00 to $250,000.00).

1920 - Rosenstiel buys the Jos. S. Finch Distillery from Sol
Rosenbloom to obtain 500,000 gallons of Golden Wedding
and a "Concentration Warehouse Permit" from the
Government (Beverage Media Blue Book, History of
Schenley).

1933 - Golden Wedding History file has the blue prints for the
pint and 4/5 quart bottles.

1935 - Golden Wedding is being sold as a blend of Straight
Whiskeys (bourbon or rye) by Schenley with an average
age of 4 years old. (U D Archive Golden Wedding History
File).

1937 - Schenley's "Hot Weather Plan" calls for promotion of a
"Frosted Golden Wedding" the recipe is as follows: Wipe
edge of chilled glass with lemon. Twirl in powdered
sugar. Fill glass with ice. Add - 1 jigger Golden
Wedding, 1 dash Peach Brandy, 1 dash Grenadine, fill

1944 - Golden Wedding changes its trademark from an old man
and a woman to a bride and groom under a glass dome (U
D Archive, Golden Wedding History File).

1945 - Schenley acquires the Quebec Distillers Inc. and change
the name to Canadian Schenley Ltd. (U D Archive,
992.m.164).

1948 - Schenley introduces Golden Wedding Canadian Whisky (200
Years of Tradition: The Canadian Whisky Story, Lorraine
Brown, p.110.)

1949 - 1949 Schenley Annual Report states that Golden Wedding
has steady growth with volume restricted only by
supplies of aged whisky.

1953 - Growth of sales make building a new warehouse at the
Valleyfield Distillery (1953 Schenley Annual Report).
