From today's New York Times, a book review on a new book on moonshining and the white dog tradition:

You are the 2nd person to recommend this book to me.
I read a passage from it not long ago and it impressed me so much that I hand-copied it to a file so I could reference it later.
I have just now ordered a copy from Amazon.

Thanks, John. Just a point of clarification: you are referring to a 1930's distilling text which I mentioned in another thread.

This thread (New Book on Moonshine) deals with a new book on moonshining in America.

I haven't quite finished Max Watman's book, but it's very good. It's very hard to separate the romantic hokum from the reality of moonshining without coming off as a spoil sport, but he manages it.

The book is also exceptionally well written, so reading it is like floating down a river in an innertube. You're going somewhere, but it seems effortless.

Yeah! I like that!

Same old moon. Same old shine. Effortless floating downriver? That's like banging a Sunday Morning hooker for free! You're going to Hell, but it sure does feel good!
