Wasmund's Single Malt Whisky

Unread postby Virginia Gentleman » Thu Jul 13, 2006 6:49 pm

Single malt whisky made in the Virginia mountains. I have not tried this yet but being a Scotch whisky drinker it sounds interesting. They use traditional floor malting like they do in Scotland. Where they differ is that they do not use peat to dry the malt but they use apple wood. I am going out to visit the distillery tomorrow so I am hoping to get a sample.

I visited the distillery today and was very impressed. It is a beautiful old building that used to be an apple warehouse. I got a personal tour from Rick Wasmund. He said in the future they may do tours by appointment. The operation is very nice and best of all the whisky tastes great. When you nose it you can really pick up the scent of apples from when they dried the malt with apple wood. It will be available in Washington, DC next month and in Virginia probably sometime in September.

I took a few pics but the files are huge. As soon as I get a program that reduces the image size I will post some.

For something quick, you could try using microsoft paint. It comes with windows so you should have it unless your on a mac. Just open paint, open the file and then goto image, stretch and skew and reduce the % of the stretch to 50% or less or more...
