This is a very basic and by no means complete time line that I put together for non-bourbon products while I was at United Distillers. I guess it could also be placed in the Scotch forum since there are many scotch whisky brands in the time line.

Non-Bourbon Heritage

1274 - Old Bushmills claims this date as its first distilling date (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1407 - Armagnoc is first produced in France (Liquor Store
Magazine, 2/70).

1510 - Dom Bernado Vincelli, a Benedictine Monk, creates the formula for Benedictine (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1575 - Lucas Bols begins to produce his first products in Amsterdam, Netherlands (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1605 - Marcechal d'Estrees gives recipe to Chartreux Monks of Paris (Remarks of Merit, Oct. 1937, p3.).

1627 - Robert Haig starts to make whisky in Scotland (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1695 - John de Kuyper and Zoom is founded in the Netherlands (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1715 - Jean Martell starts the production of his Cognac, Brandy (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1730 - Don Pedro Domecq settles in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain and starts a distillery (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1735 - Remy Martin opens his vinyards (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Brother Jerome Maubec perfects Chartreuse (Remarks of Merit, Oct. 39, p.3).

1737 - Legends have it that the first aged whisky appears in Scotland with reference to "russet-brown" whisky (Liquor Store Magazine, June 1968, p.44).

1740 - Booth Distilleries, Ltd. is founded in London (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Charles Tanqueray creates his Gin formula (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1745 - Bonnie Prince Charles gives the Clan MacKinnon the formula for Drambuie (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1749 - Giacomo Justerini and George Johnson found Justerini & Brooks (J & B scotch) (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1753 - Jean Martell dies (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1763 - Thomas Hine founds Hine Cognac (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1765 - Capt. Richard Hennessy, a member of the King of France's Irish Brigade, founds Hennessy & Co. (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1769 - Alexander Gordon opens a distillery in London (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1770 - John Harvey founds John and Robert Harvey & Co., Ltd. (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - John Jameson, a Scotsman, migrates to Ireland and invest into a Dublin distillery (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Sir Robert Burnett founds his distillery (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1779 - J & G Stewart, Ltd. is founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1795 - Baron Otard starts making Cognac, Brandy (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1805 - J & F Martell is incorporated (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1808 - Jamie '08 Blended Scotch is first marketed (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1813 - Andrew Usher & Co. is founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1815 - Monks use Chartreuse to finance the rebuilding of the monestary (Remarks of Merit, Oct. 39, p3).

1818 - Pierre Smirnoff founds his distillery in Moscow, Russia

1820 - Taylor & Ferguson, Ltd. (Ambassador Scotch) is founded in Dumbarton, Scotland Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - The Burrough Family begins to produce Beefeater Gin (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - John Walker opens a store in Kilmarnock, Scotland (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Jose Cuervo Co. of Tequila, Mexico is founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1825 - Arthur Bell & Sons, Ltd. founded in Perth, Scotland (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - John Begg opens a distillery (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1827 - George Ballantine & Son is founded in Edinburgh (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - J B Lapostolle founds Establissments Marnier Lapostelle, dealing with Cognac Brandies (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1830 - Bulloch Lade starts a distillery at Caol Ila on Islay (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Wm Teachers and Sons, Ltd. of Glasgow, Scotland is founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1831 - Robert Thorne of Greenock, Scotland blends his first whisky (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1835 - King William IV whisky is introduced (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Old Smuggler Scotch is introduced to the market (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1845 - Cook, Russel and Co., Ltd. (Boodles British Gin) founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1846 - John Dewar opens a Wine and Spirit Shop in Perth, Scotland (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1847 - Wolfschmidt Vodka is first made at Riga, Latvia (lIquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1849 - Edouard and Adolphe Cointreau found Cointreau Liqueur (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1850 - Domecq starts to produce Funador Brandy (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1854 - The MacKinnons first start to market Drambuie (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1857 - W & A Gilbey (Gin) is founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1860 - Alexander Walker opens a branch in London (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - P D Carnegie & Sons. Ltd. (Masquers Gin) is founded in London (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Chartreux Monks start to manufacture their liqueurs at a factory near the monastery. (U D Archive, Book History of Chartreuse p.1).

1870 - Grand Marnier is formulated (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1879 - Fred L Myers & Sons, Ltd (Myer's Rum) is Founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1880 - John Begg dies (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1882 - Metaxa is founded at Piraeus, Greece (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1884 - James Buchannan moves to London and starts marketing his Black and White Scotch (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Lionello Stock opens a distillery at Trieste, Italy (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1896 - The firm of John Dewar and Sons is incorporated (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1897 - John and Robert Harvey & Co., Ltd. is incorporated (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1898 - Peter Dawson Ltd. is founded (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Wm Teacher builds his first distillery (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1899 - Alexander Walker dies. His sons take over the business and found John Walker and Sons, Ltd. (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1903 - The French Government siezes the Chartreuse monestary and distillery, but not the recipe. The monks escape to Spain and start producing Chartreuse in Spain (Remarks of Merit, Oct. 39, p3.).

1908 - Artist Tom Brown draws the famous "Striding Man" figure for Johnnie Walker (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1918 - Cherry Heering is created in Denmark (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1929 - The Chartreuse monks return to France and their product is made both in France and Spain (Remarks of Merit, Oct. 39, p.3).

1931 - Jas. Barclay & Company, Ltd. purchases Peninsula Distilling Co. of Toronto, Canada (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1936 - Harvey's Scotch is introduced in the United States (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1938 - Barclay starts producing Barclay's Bourbon and Barclay's Gin at Hiram Walker's distillery at Peoria Illinois (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

Circa 1938 - A D C Armagnoc is introduced in the United States
(Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1941 - Nikolai Vodka is introduced in the United States by the Leroux Co. (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1942 - Young's Market first imports Jose Cuervo Tequila (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1943 - The Puerto Rican Rum Institute is formed (Bretzfield, Liquor Marketing and Liquor Advertising, p.233).

1955 - Wolfschmidt Vodka is first sold in the United States (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

o - Dewar's Ancestor Blended Scotch Whisky is introduced as a replacement for the discontinued Victoria's Vat Scotch Whisky (Central Kentucky Bourbon News, Sept. 1955).

1960 - Giuseppe Alberti creates Liquore Strega (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1962 - Four Roses markets Nikolai Vodka (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1967 - Ambassador 8 year old Scotch is introduced to the United States (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1969 - Ambassador Royal 12 year old Scotch is introduced in the United States (Liquor Store Magazine, 2/70).

1973 - Schenley World T.&I. Co. starts to import Peter Dawson Scotch (What's New At Schenley, Winter 1973).
