I think Crown Royal is a decent whiskey, on the softer side. But might I suggest getting some 40 Creek instead. I think their whiskey is better.

I would get him a bottle of regular Crown because he likes it and bring along a bottle of Forty Creek for him to try.

We don't get much fourty creek at bevmo, so I am going with the jim beam small batch collection which includes basil hayden and bookers and then I will be taking one of the bottles with me, and a bottle of crown.

I looked at the Bevmo site (I've been to the one on Van Ness in San Francisco if it is still there, nice to visit after Tommy's Joynt), and found this:

http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDetail ... /R-4-36000

They also carry at about 1/3rd less the regular Pendleton blend. I'd go with one of these as a good alternative to CR, especially Pendleton 1910 which has a rich taste that might denote a 100% Canadian flavouring whisky. Crown is decent but not more in my opinion, even the Reserve version.

Here is a review by Canadian whisky writer Davin de Kergommeaux:

http://www.canadianwhisky.org/reviews/p ... c-vol.html

It sounds excellent to me, the pine, menthol and lime notes seem to denote a flavouring whiskey, i.e., one distilled out at a low proof and analogous to a U.S. straight rye.

I will be getting a bottle of it, this sounds perfect and it is cheaper than the Crown Royale Reserve.
