New Holland Double Down Barley

Unread postby Skope » Sat Jul 06, 2013 6:52 pm

So I picked up a bottle of Double Down Barley..
Brewers Malt Whiskey, made with 100% 2row barley
Aged 6 months in small barrels

Here is where I need help from the experts here
1) It is very thin, and not very complex. Straight forward not bad, but not much going on
Is this because its young, or because of the grain bill?

2) I smell tequila??? I was in Nashville last month, and noticed the same thing with Corsair whiskey
The whiskey smelled like tequila.
The same thing is going on with Popcorn Sutton white whiskey.

I hate tequila. Why do these have the tequila smell

This is my first post, but been reading here the last 6 months
This new hobby of mine is getting pretty costly

Hello Skope, welcome aboard. My guess is the commonality of the whiskys you mentioned is they are all young (as is Tequila generally) and it may well be that trait doesn't suit your palate. You are the best judge of what tastes good and you don't need years of whisky tasting experience to decide that.
