Bottling InfoThis Single Barrel Bourbon is deep amber in color, the nose is light and sweet, with traces of mango and papaya. The body is full, and the palate shows a nice, if simple, balance of honey, clover, a slight fruitiness, and a dash of spices. The finish is long and warm.

A well crafted whiskey.
Drink it on the rocks or in a Manhattan.

Review from gillmang (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 2182, Created:20130413121627, Updated:20130413122138)
Purchased at:Dram in a Toronto restaurant
Nose:I couldn't tell because the drink was served in an embossed fruit jar-style of glass
Taste:Much like Mike describes just below, soft and rich, denuded of invasive flavours shall we say. There was no damp earth-type note such as I've noticed in some Buffalo Trace products in the past, just classic well-knitted bourbon flavours.
Finish:Refined and long. Slight note of bottle oxidation but it didn't get in the way and wasn't the whisky's fault, the bottle was about 4/5ths empty and restaurant/bar bottles sometimes seem afflicted by this, not sure why.
Overall:I give it a high rating, it is quality American whiskey worth all the money.

Review from Mike (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 2004, Created:20111027171759, Updated:20111027194746)
Purchased at:Sigman Bottle Shop, Conyers, GA
Purchased for:$46
Nose:Vanilla, oak, caramel. butterscotch, and corn open a candy nose. Very appealing and somewhat soft. I am looking forward to the taste.
Taste:Oily and rich sweetness that slides across the front of the mouth like a warm syrup. At mid-mouth a mild attack of cinnamon and pepper attack with in a feint, reserving the modest heat for the back of the mouth. Very nice.
Finish:Fairly long finish as the embers refuse to die and easy death.
Overall:A very enjoyable bourbon with a well defined upfront sweet opening, a spicy mid-palate, and a long lasting quite warm finish. For reasons unknown to me, I have never bought a bottle of Hancock's. I did have a sip of some first rate and older Hancock's at the BE gathering in Bardstown recently and it was exceptional. I find this bourbon to be almost the equal of Rock Hill Farms....... but not quite. RHF is a tad more complex and interesting at about the same price point. I can see how some might easily prefer the Hancoks.

Review from kystormwatch (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 1457, Created:20090204184100)
Purchased at:Liquor Barn (2/2009)
Purchased for:$30 (sale price - normally $40)
Info on this bottle:Hancock's President's Reserve Single Barrel - Specially Selected by Liquor Barn
Nose:Very prominent fruit aromas and a lot of sweetness. Oak so light you check the bottle...is this bourbon?
Taste:The fruit nose comes through in taste as well. A little orange and a little apricot. Some spiciness but doesn't stay around long.
Finish:Light, light, light. A bit oily. Early, there is a little burn that fades fast. Not much after that.
Overall:Being a big fan of Buffalo Trace products, I was highly anticipating trying this one. I think my expectations were a bit much. It's not that I found anything I flat out disliked. There was just nothing there to make it special.

Quite frankly, if I hadn't purchased this at a decent discount, I think I'd probably be a bit more outspoken againat it. I have to wonder if special selection/bottling for retailer Liquor Barn somehow ended up with single barrel selections that might not be representative of the standard company bottling. I think I need to try a sample that is not a special selection to compare.

Overall? Pleasant, lightweight, unremarkable. Value? At normal price, not so good. At the price I paid, reasonable.

Finish:[Description of the lingering taste impression]
Overall:Hmmm... exactly as borbonv described... I usually do not have a carbon copy of another review... but cannot improve upon the correct opinion....

Not worth what I paid... but $35 may be fair....

Purchased at:Liquor Barn on Hurstbourne Lane, Louisville
Info on this bottle:Standard bottle from liquor store
Proof Of this Bottle:88.9
Nose:Vanilla and floral tones with a hint of spice and leather. A little citrus fruit hides in the back.
Taste:Very thin and simple - sweet vanilla and spice - nutmeg, with a little oak wood towards the finish.
Finish:Sweet and pleasant with the oak wood coming through in the end and lasting a respectible long time.
Overall:This is a nice sipping whiskey and will probably compliment a good pipefull of tobacco.

Review from Squire (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 246, Created:20050814175819)
Purchased at:Jackson, MS
Purchased for:$45
Nose:Light, some maple-caramel and barrel notes, very subdued vanilla
Taste:Maple on entry followed by light vanilla. Body fuller than the nose implies, rich and integrated. Barrel tanins and alcohol heat come in after mid palate.
Finish:Light, fleeting, hot and surprisingly bitter considering the richness of the body.
Overall:This whiskey is a puzzle to me as it is better than average but not special enough and should sell for less than half the retail price. I believe I would like this one more if it was either younger or older and 100 proof. I've had this bottle for years and the only time it comes out is to pour a taste for a guest who hasn't tried the brand.

Review from angelshare (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 79)
Purchased at:
Nose:With my nose above the snifter rim, I get a faint floral smell. With my nose in the glass, caramel.
Taste:A spicy quality predominates initially with just a hint of bitterness - not in a bad sense, more like the pleasant bitterness of good coffee. After a splash of water, a spicy sweet combination like a ginger snap.
Finish:Warm, with the spiciness lingering well after.
Overall:The biggest criticism I have is of the price - in VA, in excess of $50. In the BT stable of bourbons, I find it odd - better than BT, better than ETL SB, but priced like it's better than Stagg. If you find a $35 bottle like Mark, I think you will be pleased. Much more, you'll feel slightly cheated. I agree with Mark - it holds its own with other top notch pours.

Purchased at:Liquor Barn
Purchased for:$35
Info on this bottle:Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Nose:I find it to be somewhat light, especially after everything else we have drank tonight, but in a very nice way. I get fruit with some sweetness but cannot put my finger on exactly what kind.
Taste:Again I get fruit with a hint of something sweet, almost like cane sugar and a bit of spiciness but in the right proportions. I am really enjoying this pour more than I thought I would.
Finish:Nice and long with very little burn.
Overall:
