Review from bourbonv (BourbonEnthusiast Review ID 2034, Created:20120125184429) Purchased at: | Gift from Heaven Hill | Info on this bottle: | Blue State label | Nose: | Very simple nose with some vanilla and caramel, corn and a hint of oak. Not a complex nose, but not an unpleasant nose either. | Taste: | Sweet with vanilla and caramel. Some corn sweetness comes through as well as a little apricot fruit - neither are real strong but they do add to the sweetness of the bourbon. There is no alcohol burn and it does seem a little thin in the mouth, but on the whole, a real nice drink of bourbon. | Finish: | The finish starts with some nice oak tannins making it a little dry and oaky, but quickly devolves to a simple sweet finish. Not complex or earth shattering good finish, but a decent finish. | Overall: | These bourbons are a perfect metaphor for American politics. The same whiskey in both labels that starts simple on the nose and has a sweet taste, but a rather ordinary finish. I think Heaven Hill has hit the nail on the head with these bourbons. |
